SOLID HARDWOOD FLOORING

We sell a wide range of solid strip timber flooring in different species, widths, and grades. The traditional solid strip timber floor is renowned for its strength, durability, long lifetime, and character. Solid timber flooring can be refreshed and rejuvenated to practically new condition with resanding and repolishing.

Solid timber is sold in “packs”, and some boards can be up to 6m long! This means that solid timber is delivered by crane truck.

INSTALLATION (click to expand)

There is a variety of solid strip timber flooring installation methods, dependent on the type of subfloor and the width of the flooring.

Secret nailing: in this installation method, the nail is shot directly into the “tongue” part of the board.

Solid timber is sold as a raw / unfinished product. This means that after the completion of the installation, a sander must come to site to sand and finish the floor.

You can choose from a variety of finishes (e.g. water or polyurethane based) and various levels of gloss for the finish.

NARROW: 80mm, 85mm, 90mm, and 95mm options available depending on supplier

STANDARD: 130mm

Solid Flooring

For years already solid wooden flooring is a popular flooring choice in Australia. Homeowners, architects and even commercial developers all agree that a solid timber floor is strong, durable and almost always cost-effective.

However, many homeowners don’t know exactly why solid timber floors are such a good choice for flooring.

In this article, we’ll look at some of the important aspects any homeowner should know about solid hardwood floors.

What is “solid wood flooring”?

Solid wood flooring consists of planks that are milled from a single piece of timber. Because the planks come from a single piece of timber the floor displays a beautiful natural pattern.

Usually, you buy the solid timber you use for flooring as an unfinished or raw product. Therefore, after you’ve completed the floor installation, a sander must come to sand and finish the floor on-site.

Main reasons why you should consider a solid hardwood floor

Four important reasons why you should consider a solid hardwood floor as a flooring option:

1. Luxurious feeling

For decades, people have regarded solid hardwood floors as uniquely luxurious. In the past, many builders of houses in the higher price range used solid timber flooring because of the “luxurious feeling” of a wooden floor. Nowadays, it is very popular again – in all price ranges.

2. Wide range of wooden flooring options Established flooring suppliers and fitters, such as Zealsea Flooring offer a wide option of solid flooring options you can choose from.

3. Different species

The timber of Spotted Gum and Blackbutt trees are two popular types of timber for Australian homes. The Spotted Gum’s timber is the most durable of all Australian hardwoods

4. Variety of finishes

To make the floor of your home unique you can choose from a variety of finishes and various levels of gloss for the finish.

Durability and tips on how to maintain your wooden floors

Your wooden floors will stay beautiful for decades if you look after them correctly. Let’s look at a few tips on how to treat your solid timber floors.

· Wipe-up spills quickly.

· Don’t allow puddles of water on your wooden floors for too long.

· Use a damp cloth or mop to clean your floors. Don’t use too much water.

· Don’t use cleaning products containing ammonia.

· Don’t use brooms with very hard bristles.

· Do not drag appliances or furniture on your floor.

· From time to time, vacuum up dust between the joints.

· Trim your pets’ nails to ensure that they don’t scratch the floor’s surface.

What is the cost of hardwood flooring in Australia and where to find it?

On average, you will pay around $100 per m2 for standard wooden floors in Australia. For high-grade material, you might pay up to $200 per m2. Cheaper alternatives might cost you as little as $50 per m2.

However, the final cost depends on the type of wood you choose and whether you choose to install patterns.

You will find solid hardwood flooring in Brisbane at the most reputable flooring companies, such as Zealsea Flooring.

Conclusion

Solid wooden flooring comes from different species and in various widths and grades and is renowned for its durability. If you want to change the current flooring in your home, we recommend that you consider solid flooring because you can always rejuvenate the floor by resanding and/or repolishing it.
